Resilience and unity shape the soul of the community on the Detroit’s North End. The North End is a powerful testament to the strength of families, the unwavering faith of churches and their fight against forces that threatened their way of life. In the face of rising drug trafficking, the people of the North End rallied together to protect their streets and to uplift the next generation. Their belief in the power of education and technical training, helped them rear their children on paths toward brighter futures.

Visiting Miss Emma is a nostalgic snapshot and view of family, church and community life in the city of Detroit during the 1950’s and 1960’s. True history is intertwined with fictional characters, making this writing an historical fiction. Miss Emma’s character, a real person in the story, is told through the eyes of her granddaughter, Yvette.  This book is written for preteen, teens and young adults. But it will draw the interest of those of us who are much older, bringing back memories of a time period not long ago.
